Ordinary Heroes is set in 1973. Richard Dean Anderson plays Tony Kaiser, a soldier blinded while serving in Vietnam. Tony leaves the United States as a brash, arrogant young man with a firm resolve to return home and marry his fiancé, Maria Pedsoe played by Valerie Bertinelli. After he is wounded Tony loses faith in himself and in his relationship. He cannot accept that Maria loves the man inside because to him that man is dead and there is no future. He is both afraid and angry and he does not want to interact with or burden Maria. Friends and family maneuver the unwilling Tony into confronting Maria. The last scene is tender and beautifully performed by Mr.. Anderson and Ms. Bertinelli.
